Apple Walnut Bread

This years apple picking was limited to the farmers market. It’s certainly not the same as being out on the field picking them yourself fresh off the field, but it’s much better than getting them out of a barrel at the supermarket! The air was crisp as I walked to the farmer’s market this morning, but I couldn’t wait to get home and bake this warm spicy bread with the beautiful Rome apples I got! 1 1/2 cups flour
3/4 cups sugar
2tbs baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 cup shortening
1 egg
3/4 cup milk
1 cup pared, diced apples
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add shortening, egg and milk. Stir until blended and fold in apples and walnuts. Pour into greased loaf pan and bake for about 30 minutes.
